I wish my church would put a list of what to wear and what not to wear to mass in the back of church and in the bulitton (I know thats the wrong spelling). it really bugs how a lot of people in church dress.and for that matter how they act.esp when theres a baptism and none of the people ever go to church exept on holidays and they dont know how to act in church.it's very annoying. I should talk to someone about that.I know who I'll talk to. anyway is there a list like that or anything in any of your church's? ---------- Holly

No we don't have a how to dress list- and although some people don't dress appropriately, I don't think there should be a list because everyone is welcome to come to church and how they act and dress is between them and God. No one can make official church attire standards because everyone has different standards and only God knows the heart. but yes it is very annoying!!!! ---------- Life has got to be lived, that's all there is to it. -Eleanor Roosevelt

We don't either, but in a church in the Philippines they did. It said that you can wear long pants, skirts of reasonable length, dresses, and shirts. Fr. Reid once asked politely that woman wear better clothes. It was more like a friendly reminder, not a do's and don'ts list. especially during the summer. I mean, he's a priest and he shouldn't have to look at that when he's giving you communion. however, I do think people should be reminded of that. I know it's kind of the person's choice to wear whatever and the church is open to anyone, of course. We're not going to shun someone because they wear bad clothes. but it's kind of like our preist was saying once. We were talking and Father says something about disrespectful behavior or clothing at mass. Then someone says, "well at least they came to mass, right?" and father responds, "well, if they are going to come like that, then sometimes it's better if they don't come." at first I was shocked (I mean, it can never be bad to come to mass) but if you think a bout it, it's right! If you really don't care and you're just going to come willy nilly- you are actually offending Jesus. and then you come up and receive Him and you don't even care and you are not worthy of Him. so you might as well not come to mass at all. so, yes that's pretty important. ---------- -Thalita Amor vincit omni- Love conquers all

Every now and then there are "reminders" of how to dress nicely- guidelines- in our bulliten. It bugs me, because why should these guidelines be NEEDED? LIke Tmaria said, attire can and does speak about you, and if you dress inappropriately you are TELLING Jesus (and everyone at church) that you don't really care. ---------- The more I learn about science, the more I believe in God. -Einstein

yeah. I think about like way back when everyone dressed up to go to church.must have been nice.now people not only dress more casualy but sometimes immodestly. I was tought that we should dress like we are going to a big banqeutte (spelling?) cause we are.and Im going to receive Jesus and I shoudlent dress like Im going to get a smoothie. ---------- I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.~Michelangelo

In some ways I'd like rules but at the same time I don't. I understand the need to dress modestly, I hate seeing immodesty at Mass but at the same time modesty isn't taught so of course people aren't going to practice it. Sometimes the situation causes you to come not dressed as you should. I made it back into my town about 15 minutes before Mass started...I had time to go to the bathroom and then leave for Mass so I showed up in shorts and a tshirt. ---------- She knows Chesterton, she lives. I think that has to do with not judging others to fast.you have to stop and think,ok mabye this person had to wear that for whatever reason, you know give them the benifet of the doubt. but sometimes you can't like when someone always in skinny jeans and a tacky sweatshirt or something like that and you know them well enough to know they don't have any excuse.it bugs me. the old ladies at my parish love me cause I always wear skirts to mass.recently there was a blood drive at our church and I made a desert and my Mom brought it there now they think even more of me.its funny. most teens would probably hate getting praised by old ladies but I value their opinions.they have been on this earth a lot longer than I have. ---------- I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.~Michelangelo

I use to see the old ladies at our Church more, but I am no longer help at funerals and stuff like that. I probably will work at them more, once I learn to drive. We live kinda far away right now. That's cool you wear skirts to Church all the time. I like wearing white pants and skirts the best, however, I also wear jeans , because sometimes we play football or tag after Mass. ---------- Housework never killed anyone, but why take any chances.

I love to do beading. In fact I made my mom earrings and a necklce for Mother's Day. Our church once had a list of things that you had to wear to mass, but I don't know what happened to that. At our Parish's school, they make all of the girls wear skirts as uniforms so they go to mass in skirts. The skirts are way too short, but they are making a step in the right direction, but Sunday masses are horrible. Tight jeans, mini skirts, short dresses, revealing tops, it makes me shudder.Ugh! I always wear a nice dress or skirt to mass, and I have never worn pants once to mass. ---------- Kind words can be short and easy to speak but their echoes are truly endless. ~ Mother Teresa.

If I were going to mass today I would be wearing a long white skirt and a lavender eyelet blouse and my fav. sandal's.sadly Im not feeling up to going which stinks cause I was going to be recognised with the people I was confirmed with during mass.I just dont feel up to going, but what can I do.theres going to be first comunion today too so it would just be to much,I dont want to get another migrane. I used to wear jeans for church soemtimes but I never do anymore.at least they werent really icky ones. there are a couple girls who come once in a while who wear very immodest tops.on Easter sunday I saw peaople wearng immodest dress's and I saw one girl wearing a very takcy immodest denim minnie skirt.I mean come on,the shortness is bad enough but it was one of those really ugly ones that looks like its falling apart.ish!:( ---------- I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.~Michelangelo

I have never worn pants to mass. Has anyone read the book Dressing with Dignity? It's a great Catholic book about how important it is to dress correctly.
I didn't really see anything wrong about pants until my mom talked with me and I read that book above. I still wear pants, but I never question my mother saying that I can't wear pants to church now.
I heartily and firmly support the idea that all of you girls should get this book. It helps protect your purity and helps you to avoid the attention that you do not want from boys. ---------- The only time I have trouble is when I'm right. - Annie Sullivan

I have read that book. It was allright. I believe modesty in NUMBER 1 but at the same time I read somewhere that it is hard to say nowadays that pants are a occasion of sin for a man. The style of the pants could cause the wrong attention, but due to the times the pants themselves no longer draw extra attention to a woman.
I think wearing pants to church is fine as long as they are modest. I have worn a very masculine outfit to mass and was still respectable. It was a army green abortion shirt and a pair of jeans, modest and not feminine looking. I prefer looking feminine because it helps keep the gender roles as they should be but at the same time I do take comfort over look so sweat pants and tshirts are the norm. ---------- She knows Chesterton, she lives. I am going to get a dress from MikaRose this Fall. Their dresses are sooooooooo pretty!!!!!!! I don't know what happened to Sunday Best. All the girls wear now are tight jeans, their everyday clothes that are too tight and too short or mini skirts. I never see a girl in church my age wearing a nice dress, skirt or modest, feminine pants.
I agree also. I think that many pants are very immodest in the world today. But many pants can be modest. Wearing a skirt on a windy Winter day is not very pleasant. My dad says that this Fall I can get a couple pairs of nice, feminine, not-to-tight dress pants. I have trouble because when they are not too tight, they are either too short or way too long. I'm 5 feet 3 inches, so I don't know what pants fit me. I'm not fat, I'm not skinny, I'm not even overweight, so what's the problem? I guess they suppose girls are either very tall or very short. -------- The only time I have trouble is when I'm right. - Annie Sullivan

same here with the pants.Im about the same height and last year I was looking for a pair of nice dress pants and they were all super long,if you sew you can hem them up,my Mom had to hem up a pair of pants for me. sounds cute Audree. Im not buying juniors jeans thsi fall,Im going to look in the misses section and see if I can find some nice ones,I dont like jeans but sometimes I have to wear them and if I need to wear them at least I can wear ones that I dont hate. all the junior's jeans are to tight and some have loud designs on the back that draws way to much attention there. the most feminine pants are capri's cause they were designed for women, jeans are the least feminine, they were dseigned for guys. I really wanted a pair of white pants this spring but I never got any. I have a cute pair of white capri's from NY & Co.
